JUNE 2008

JAMIE AND ERIC'S TOP 10 PICKS FOR JUNE

This month Jamie and Eric have come up with a mix of great value wines, quaffers, and reasonably priced bottles for the cellar.

1. 2006 Soave Classico, Az. Agr. Prà (Veneto, Italy)
100% Garganega.  Top-flight producer crafting wines in a clean yet concentrated style. $19.95  CSPC# 074534

2. 2007 Costières de Nîmes Blanc ‘Cuvee Tradition’, Mas de Bressandes (Languedoc, France)
Here is your perfect bistro white.  Looks, smells and tastes as it should, like white wine! $12.95 CSPC# 701094

3. 2006 Taburno Greco Ocone, Az. Agr. De Monte (Campania, Italy)
Weird and wonky stuff from just outside of Naples. The Greco grape combines candied fruit with a slight nuttiness. $16.95 CSPC# 072231

4. 2000 Tokaji Aszú 3 Puttonyos, Château Dereszla (Tokaji, Hungary)
For us Tokaji is so versatile that it doesn’t have to be a dessert wine.  Here we have an example overflowing with apricots, caramel and walnuts. $24.95 CSPC# 071498

5. 2004 Malbec, Luigi Bosca (Mendoza, Argentina)
We are just crazy for Malbec.  This is a juicy, grapey everyday quaffer. $17.95 CSPC# 074922

6. 2005 Costers del Segre ‘Vilosell’, Tomàs Cuisiné (Costers del Segre, Spain)
A blend of Tempranillo, Cabernet, Merlot and Syrah.  Modern wine with plenty of fruit and alcohol in wrapped up in a well rounded, sexy package. $20.95 CSPC# 066928

7. 2005 Gigondas, Domaine Font-Sane (Rhône Valley, France)
One great value for the cellar.  This Grenache based wine will surprise us in the years to come and it doesn’t break the bank. $24.95 CSPC# 735779

8. 2005 Château La Vieille Cure Fronsac (Bordeaux, France)
This is a Bordeaux that keeps producing better wines every year.  The 2005 might be the best ever.  Hold on to this for at least five more years. $46.95 CSPC# 947127

9. 2001 San Leone, Castello Sonnino (Tuscany, Italy)
This estate is almost as famous for its olive oil as it is for its wine.  This Super-Tuscan is approaching maturity.  Dusty black cherries, leather and bitter chocolate dominate. $46.95 CSPC#066043

10. Château Musar (Bekka Balley, Lebanon)
Gaston Hochar’s wines has developed cult status over the years.  One of the world’s most unique reds.  Picture a super exotic and wild Châteauneuf-du-Pape. $54.95 CSPC# 708552
