TOP WINE PICKS

Here are Jamie and Eric's Top Ten picks for July.

1. 2004 Riesling ‘Butterfly’, Zilliken (Mosel-Saar-Ruwer, Germany)
Stunning Riesling from the Mosel!  Wonderful balance of sweet and tart. $14.95  CSPC #28456

2. 2005 Gavi, Michele Chiarlo (Piedmont, Italy)
From one of our favourite producers in Italy.  Clean and crisp apple notes with a hint of spice. $19.95  CSPC # 30247

3. 2005 Pinot Blanc, Amity Vineyards (Oregon, USA)
Round and full but retains wonderful acidity.  Very food friendly. $24.95 CSPC # 944322

4. 2005 Gewürztraminer Lieu-Dit Harth ‘Cuvée Caroline’, Domaine Schoffit (Alsace, France)
Full and decandent style Gewurz.  Spicy and exotic white from one of France’s top producers. $37.95  Vinifera Wine Agency 416.924.4004

5. 2006 Sauvignon Blanc, Tomero (Mendoza, Argentina)
Bright and modern sauvignon.  Tropical fruit and fresh herbs mingle well.  $14.95  Metropolitan Wine and Spirits  416.483.5430

6. 2004 Barbabelle, Marc Kreydenweiss  (Languedoc, France)
Ultimate bistro red.  Classic southern blend with plenty of fruit earth and spice. $14.95  Wineonline.ca

7. 2001 Cepparello, Isole e Olena (Tuscany, Italy)
The best expression of Sangiovese.  Black cherries abound.  One for the cellar. $71.95  CSPC # 25593

8. 2005 Chablis, Lavantureaux (Burgundy, France)
Very nice Chard from Burgundy.  An expression of soil and fruit rather than oak concentration. $34.95  Barrel Select 416.984.WINE

9. 2002 Rioja Reseva ‘Roda 1’, Bodegas Roda (Rioja, Spain)
Modern Rioja with a hefty price tag.  Cellar to see how super ripe Tempranillo starts jammy and sweet and then evolves into leather and loose tea. $71.95  CSPC # 32565

10. Something really special for the cellar...
2003 Volnay 1er Cru ‘Clos des Ducs’, Marquis d’Angerville  (Burgundy, France)
Volnay’s master has struck again with another gem.  Pinot does not get much better than this. $150.00  Vinifera Wine Agency 416.924.4004
